Area of Research
- Dr. Smith is an Assistant Professor of Livestock Herd Health and Reproduction. Her expertise is in immunology and infectious disease. Her research interests are in the areas of small ruminant emerging diseases, immune development and sex differences in ruminants, and development/assessment of herd level preventative measures for infectious disease. Dr. Smith is boarded in Large Animal Internal Medicine and her clinical focus is small ruminant herd health. Potential research topics include immune characterization of sheep and goats, field research on a novel approach to prevention of gastrointestinal or respiratory diseases of sheep and goats, and bio-surveillance of California's small ruminant populations for emerging infectious diseases.
