• Endogenous electric fields are naturally produced at wounds and provide a powerful signal to mobilize and guide cells into the wounds to heal. Dr. Zhao's research goal is to elucidate the molecular mechanisms by which wounds generate and regulate endogenous electric fields, and how cells sense the electric fields. He also aims to develop novel technology that exploits electric signaling for better wound healing and regeneration.
